It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go. The temperature is falling with the leaves and I heard that there is snow up north. We have our tree on the lanai this year, because of a little boy that can crawl really fast when he has his sights on something really fun, like a Christmas tree.

This being Nat's first Christmas, we thought it would be appropriate to have a beach photo for the card. He really was doing very well, considering that it was dinner time and the shells he was trying to eat were less than tasty.

He was also getting bored and somewhat annoyed at the end. The sun had set, the waves were mediocre at best and there were no people to flirt with on the beach. You could almost hear him say, "Mom, Dad, let's get this over with already so I can eat my beans and mashed potatoes and have a bottle."

The maiden voyage of our boat "Nemo's Playpen" was quite the event. We set off at a great pace across the tranquil waters of Tampa Bay. There were relaxed Loons floating over gentle waves during their witner retreat from the frozen Northern lakes. Grebes, cormorants and pelicans were flying, diving or playing in the water as we skimmed by at 35 MPH. Dolphins surfaced here and there, chasing their mullet meals. The sun was descending into the horizon after a job well done.

Then, we entered the mouth of the creek with minimum wake and our troubles began. The engine stopped after we came around a bend, where we were stranded for about a half hour. Numerous attempts to restart and engage the engine into gear came to no avail. We were stuck. We found reverse to be of some use, so we drove backwards about 200 yards to a small boat ramp, and waited for Jen and Nat to pick us up. Thankfully, Jen was there almost as soon as we landed and Nat didn't have to bear witness to his parents stroke of luck -- bad luck.

Kathleen reminded me of a saying, "One of the happiest days in your life is the first day you own your boat - the other is when you sell it." For this boat, the honeymoon is over and now we are going to be afraid for the next few weeks when we take it out that it will stall or not work properly.

Take care,
Michael, Kathleen and Nathaniel

the boat thing will work out. The beach pictures look especially nice to those of us who are having freezing rain and an ice storm all day today. Floridians aren't cut out for this!
